Helping newly adoptive families manage health problems that may
not have been so clearly understood prior to the adoption transition.
We transform the lives of international children that not only are in need of parents and homes but have unmet medical needs. Ideally, when operating globally, medical needs of orphans or those at risk of becoming orphaned would be met and when possible measures taken to restore a family by supporting and equipping parents. Health for orphans believes that children should not become orphans due to poverty or medical needs.
There are many wonderful non-profit organizations that bring needed aid to orphanages and help bridge the gap between waiting children and child-seeking parents. What Health for Orphans does that is unique is to bring advanced medical expertise and interventions to orphans in need. We not only help meet medical needs at orphanage locations prior to an adoption but also help these children and their newly adoptive families manage health problems that may not have been so clearly understood prior to the adoption transition. Health For Orphans works with local child care centers that prioritize family restoration and domestic adoption to keep the child in their country of birth. We believe International Adoption is a valuable avenue to give a special needs child a home instead of a life in an institutional setting. This should only be pursued after when family restoration, adoption by relatives, and domestic adoption have failed.
One unique area of focus includes psychological disturbances such as Reactive Attachment Disorder and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder that can complicate not only the placement of needy children but also complicate the adoptive transition process that these children and families experience. Health for Orphans leverages existing neuroscience technologies and supports the development of new technologies that will specifically be used to help children improve their mental and physical functioning and increase self-esteem, confidence, and future capacities in life.
